NPR Interviews UB Facial Expression Recognition Expert

Professor Mark Frank of UB’s Department of Psychology is a leading expert in facial expression recognition. He has developed a system that uses facial emotional cues to home in on lies, a technique which has proven to be extremely valuable to law enforcement officials. National Public Radio spoke with Professor Frank as part of a three-part series on lying and deception. UB Pharmacy Students Win National Competition

An all-woman student team from the University at Buffalo’s School of Pharmacy and Pharmaceutical Sciences has won the National Community Pharmacists Association (NCPA) Pruitt-Schutte Student Business Plan Competition.The UB team beat finalists from the University of Washington and Washington State University during the NCPA’s annual convention in Anaheim, Calif., last weekend. The three finalists were chosen from 32 entries submitted by U.S. colleges and schools of pharmacy nationwide. Find out more.

NYSTAR Grant Recruits Nanotech Expert to UB

A grant from the New York State Office of Science, Technology and Academic Research (NYSTAR) allowed the University at Buffalo to recruit Gottfried Strasser, an internationally known scientist in nanotechnology. Strasser, appointed jointly to the Department of Electrical Engineering and the Department of Physics, will use the grant to establish an advanced technological foundry at UB, a critical component for highly competitive nanotechnology research programs. UB Students: How We Spent Our Summer Vacation

UB Announces Founding of University Honors College

The home of the oldest honors program in the State University of New York system, the University at Buffalo announced the founding of its University Honors College at a ceremony October 2. The Honors College is “an important milestone in our plan to make UB into one of the top public research universities in the country,” said UB President John B. Simpson. With 316 freshmen entering the Honors College this fall, honors-student enrollment has grown dramatically at UB since the progam began with 20 students in 1981. Read all about it.
