Students working together

Learning Communities

Though we're a large, comprehensive university, UB's true strength lies in the smaller learning communities at work on campus everyday. These communities are the engines of discovery that propel our students and faculty to constantly push the boundaries of knowledge. While some of these communities form more organically, UB also has a long tradition of offering a number of formal programs that allow students to be engaged with their studies in a truly collaborative learning environment.

Undergraduate Academies

UB's undergraduate academies are learning communities composed of students, faculty, and staff that share a common mission, goals, and interests. Joining an undergraduate academy will enable you to focus on one of UB's core academic strengths through theme-based seminar courses, lectures, and projects under the direction of academy faculty master scholars. In addition, you will be introduced to tailored workshops and relevant university and community clubs and organizations, which will enhance your academic work. Scholarly Communities

UB's top students are invited to participate in one of several close-knit scholarly communities, including the University Honors College, the University Scholars Program, and the Daniel Acker Scholars Program. These communities provide a range of exceptional resources, including individualized advisement, social activities, and enhanced opportunities for collaborative research.
